Tango Tangk Skill Level Checklist
A Tango Tangk is a protected learning space where we strive
to maintain the best environment for improving your dance skills.
We have prescribed the following basic skills for you to check
against before booking your place(s) on the workshop. If in doubt,
please contact us on 023 8073 8061.
You need the following basic skill levels to get the most
out of a Tango Tangk. If you are unable to perform any of the
following dance moves you will be out of your comfort zone during
a Tangk and a hindrance to the enjoyment and class benefit of
any partner you work with during the workshops.
If we observe
a lack of these basic skills, you will be asked to work with
the partner you booked with during workshops and not change partners.
We ask each dancer booking a place on a Tango Tangk to be
responsible for strictly observing these minimum requirements
as attending a Tangk without attaining these skills has an impact
on everybody attending the workshops.
- Forward and backward Ochos (solo)
You have achieved a balanced pivot, in a vertical axis, forward
and backwards, with no cheating of any pivot by crossing legs.
The move is expected to observe and expedite a 90 degree (minimum)
rotary move / linear move / 90 degree rotary move, with no loss
of balance. Leaders can provide an invitation to dance an ocho
to their partner with sufficient 'intention' so that the follower
is NOT pulled into a forward or backward cross.
Observe the required minimum ocho skills here.
- Forward and backward Ochos (partnered)
Working with any partner, you have achieved a pivot in an
independent axis when both dancers are executing an ocho in any
configuration. Any need for axis support from your partner at
the moment of pivot is not acceptable. Leaders can provide an
invitation to dance an simultaneous ocho to their partner with
sufficient 'intention' so that the follower is NOT pulled into
a forward or backward cross.
- Clockwise and anticlockwise Giros (solo)
You understand the code of the giro, the sequence of four
steps that will move you around your partner (forward/side/backward/side)
and have achieved a balanced pivot in a vertical axis for the
forward and backward turns with no cheating of the pivot by crossing
legs. The move is expected to observe and expedite the necessary
rotary and linear moves around a central axis.
Observe the required minimum giro (turn) skills here.
- Clockwise and anticlockwise Giros (partnered)
Working with any partner, you have acheived a synchronous
and symetrical turn around an imaginary axis between both dancers,
using sufficient contraposture to present your 'heart' to your
partner throughout the move. Any need for axis support from your
partner at the any moments of pivot is not acceptable.
At Tango UK, we try to operate an inclusive and progressive
pedagogical ethos, and offer specific workshops and classes that
help students acquire the skills described above.
